For those of you haven't been watching the national news, there has been major flooding in the downtown area of Cedar Rapids. The flood water crested at a height of 31.9ft. Obviously many thousands of people have been affected but there are also many silent victims in this disaster, the animals of Cedar Rapids Animal Control and the many humane societies of the area.

Through the kindness of the surrounding area they have been safely relocated to Kirkwood Community College where there is a continuous effect to keep them all healthy and happy. The makeshift shelter has also taken on the responsibility of caring for flood victims who cannot bring their pets to where they are staying. I have been helping with this effort along with the other groomers of the Cedar Rapids PetSmart. We have been grooming dogs that are so severly matted they literally are bleeding under their mats. This work has been heartbreaking but rewarding.

As of now we do not have a website for donations, nor any kind of organization for those wanting to help. If you are in the area you can head to the Vet Tech Small Animals Clinic by the South entrance of campus and sign up for volunteering. They will not accept anyone under 16. For those of you who cannot be here but wish to help when I find out more about the plans for the website I will let you know. Please have all the victims of this disaster in your thoughts and prayers as we struggle to regain some norm in this area.
